Today, the Academy, which puts on the famous Grammy Awards, uploaded a video on Instagram announcing his entrance.
The Recording Academy Voting Members are in charge of checking entries, nominating them, and finally choosing the Grammy winners.
On February 1, 2026, the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles will host the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
The 2026 Grammys will have Davido, Ravyn Lenae, Offset, Jessie Reyez, Zac Brown, Anne Akiko Meyers, Miles Minnick, Maya Elizabeth, Damien Sneed, Damaris, and Stewart Copeland as members of the academy.
Other Nigerian voting members include songwriter Tito Da Fire, rapper and Big Brother Naija winner Laycon, music executive Bizzle Osikoya, and singers Oxlade and Praiz, who joined in 2022.
To be eligible, applicants must be active performers, songwriters, producers, engineers, instrumentalists, or creators who are currently working in the music business.
They must have credits on at least six tracks that were released to the public in the last five years.
Candidates must also be involved in the industry, pay their dues every year, and be in good standing with the Academy.
A wide range of professionals from different fields go at applications before they are approved by the Board of Trustees.
Davido’s response
The “Timeless” hitmaker said he was excited to be a part of the Grammy voting process when he was chosen.
“Knowing how important it is for our voices to be heard and taking part in the Grammy Awards process is a game-changer.”
“I’ve learnt that voting gives you a say in what is considered and voted on during each award season. “I’m proud to be a member of the Recording Academy community, and I can’t wait to vote,” added the “Unavailable” singer.
The Recording Academy also said, “Voting members: look over the ballot, listen, and vote early, starting on October 3.”
Davido has been nominated for four Grammys, three of them at the 66th Grammy Awards in 2024 and one in 2025.
Along with Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Tems, Asake, and Wizkid, he was nominated for Best African Music Performance in 2025.
His work with Chris Brown and Lojay also made the list, but Tems won because they were better.
Davido has been nominated for many Grammys but has not yet won one.
