JUST IN: Unending crisis as Rivers elders reject Tinubu’s 8-point directive

Rivers State elders, including academics, technocrats, previous governors, and traditional leaders, have rejected the eight-point settlement that was reached during a reconciliation meeting between Rivers State Governor Similanayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

President Bola Tinubu chaired the reconciliation meeting on Monday night.

 

The group said that the directives—which were purportedly issued by the President—violated the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution in a statement released following their meeting, which lasted into the early hours of today.

The group added in the press release, which was signed by Senators Andrew Uchendu and Ben Birabi, former PANDEF spokesperson Chief Anabs Sara Igbe, Sir GTG Toby, the former deputy governor of Rivers State, and others, that
