The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on the Igbo people to move their investments out of Lagos and into the southeast.
As their homes were being torn down in Lagos State, the supreme Igbo social and cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, issued a plea for Igbo investors to move their money to Igbo land.
As a result of the continuing demolition exercises, the group characterised the condition experienced by Igbo residents in Lagos as unfortunate.
Igbo country is home to thriving commercial centres like Aba, Abakiliki, and Onitsha, which Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said in a press statement.
“The Igbo people should look at this as a chance to reevaluate their investments and maybe move them to the Eastern region,” says Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Our dynamic urban centres like Onitsha, Aba, and Abakiliki provide limitless opportunities for progress and development. We can create prosperous economic hubs in these places by investing and building worldwide markets. This will help the Igbo people and contribute to Nigeria’s general development, according to the document.
During this difficult time, it urged all Lagos-based Igbo residents to rally behind one another. We can overcome these challenges and create a better future for future generations if we work together.
Following recent events, it is worth considering the warnings given by our esteemed leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, about the possible repercussions of Igbo investing in other people’s land and leaving their homeland for Lagos. Disregarding these warnings had resulted in significant financial losses.
Every challenge presents an opportunity for learning and development, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We feel terrible for the impacted Igbo people, but we also recognise that they are partly to blame for their plight because they ignored Ojukwu’s warnings. We must reflect on our past errors and make concerted efforts to avoid similar ones in the future.
Nonetheless, the group has emphasised that it will not challenge Mr. Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, over the continuing destruction of properties owned by the majority of the Igbo people.
We acknowledge that the Lagos government is acting lawfully and that there are good reasons for their actions.
