Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has inaugurated the Yaba Overpass Bridge.

The Nation reports that he guaranteed the opening of the remaining three stations along the Red Line route—Ikeja, Mushin, and Oyingbo—prior to the end of the year.

Sanwo-Olu, who was ecstatic about the completion of the bridge, remarked that it would enhance the safety of lives and property, optimise traffic movement along the Yaba/Ojuelegba axis, decrease travel duration, and create an aesthetically pleasing environment.

The governor cautioned against illicit activities and commerce on the bridge and rail tracks, with commercial vehicles in particular being advised against illegal parking.

He requested the assistance of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) representatives.

The contractor for the second phase of the Blue Rail line has reportedly relocated to the construction site, according to a suggestion made by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

He reaffirmed the dedication of the government to advancing transport via the intermodal transport system.

He stated, “Alternative rail lines are being considered for implementation.” The Green Line, which spans 68 kilometres, connects Marina to Lekki Free Zone. The Purple Line, which extends for 60 kilometres from Redemption Camp to Ojo, is the other. We are certain that these two lines will enhance the travel experience of our citizens, decrease traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, and better the lifestyles of individuals.

“Distinguished guests, our conveyance initiatives have been executed at an exorbitant expense. We ought not to be indifferent to the fact that societal adversaries are determined to annihilate our commonwealth. It is cause for concern that great societies are established and maintained when their citizens assume responsibility for their infrastructure. As a result, I implore each of you to safeguard this bridge against vandalism and other forms of societal aggression. Because this bridge is not a marketplace, the ramps, steps and footpaths are not designated for vendor displays. Our law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce strict policies that prohibit any form of misuse pertaining to this facility.

“The following serves as a final caution to individuals involved in illicit commerce along railway tracks.” Make an immediate exit from the tracks to ensure your own and others’ protection. The time has come for our informal bus proprietors to no longer be seen lining buses on the road. Kindly verify that buses are located in the designated area for your operations.”

Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, managing director of the Lagos Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LAMATA), stated that the bridges in Mushin would be finished by the end of the year, while the Ikeja and Oyingbo bridges would be inaugurated shortly thereafter.
