In the February senate election for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was proclaimed the victor.

It was reported in Daily Trust that PDP candidate Abubakar Ohere went to court after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) certified that Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won the race.

She has been proclaimed the victor after the Kogi State Election Petitions Tribunal nullified Ohere’s election.

Sen. Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area, according to the unanimous decision of the three-man panel issued by the Tribunal Chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako.

He further said that three more polling units in the same LGA that were supposed to have voted for Natasha had their results removed by INEC.

After the errors were made, the court announced that Natasha had won the election with 54,074 votes, beating Ohere’s total of 51,291.

Although Ohere appealed the tribunal’s decision, the appellate court ultimately sided with the PDP candidate and proclaimed her the true victor.
