Breaking : Transformer Explosion in Jos, many feared dead

Today, a large number of people in the Gada Biu community, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, were thought to have been killed when an electric transformer exploded.

According to Saturday PUNCH’s sources, the incident that took place early today also caused damage to nearby homes and businesses.

 

According to eyewitnesses, a transformer explosion started fires in the nearby stores and homes, killing everyone inside.

 

John Silas, a local resident, confirmed the news to our Jos correspondent today.

 

According to Silas, “the people of Kabong village in the Gada Biu community woke up this morning around 3 a.m. to mourn the death of four persons. A nearby electrical transformer explosion resulted in their deaths by electrocution. I was told that more people were caught in the blaze, and their fate is currently unknown.

 

The Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, confirmed the fire and said an investigation was underway to determine the cause.

 

“Yes, we are aware,” he confirmed. There were also reports of injuries and hospitalisations. Our officers and men have been sent to the scene to look into the matter.
