Nigerian Passports delivered To Your Home From Next Year – FG
The government of Nigeria has announced that beginning in 2019, citizens can arrange to have their passports sent directly to their homes, places of employment, or other designated locations.
This was announced yesterday in Lagos by Minister of the Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo at the 2023 University of Lagos International Week opening ceremony, as reported by Channels TV.
The “sweetness” of applying for a passport, he claims, will soon be available to Nigerians thanks to the ministry’s decision to automate the procedure.
As he spoke at the event, he said, “We have begun the automation of our end-to-end passport application process, and we have given a timeline from which Nigerians will begin to experience the’sweet experience.
The implied time frame for passport delivery to Nigerian citizens is less than two weeks.
“By January of next year, Nigerians will be able to complete this application process online, and by February of next year, with collaboration and partnership with other relevant stakeholders, Nigerians will have their passports delivered to their homes, offices, and any other locations of their choice.”
Naturally, this would also apply to the procedure by which we obtain visas. We are using technology across the board to ensure a smooth operation. The minister went on to say, “To that end, we have put plans in motion to establish additional visa application centres in countries around the globe.”
Our efforts to improve our visa-on-arrival policy are related to this goal. There is a committee in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that we are working with to implement the doctrine of reciprocity.
The minister also claimed that data harmonisation would restore the trustworthiness of travel documents.
That which defines us as individuals and as a species is our identity. But what we have now is a registration duplicate,” he said.
“Nigeria is the only country I am aware of that requires you to register your personal information with multiple agencies (bank, international passport, NIN, SIM card registration for telecos, etc.). Harmonising our information is necessary to restore trust in our travel documents.
