Breaking : Plateau election tribunal upholds Caleb Mutfwang as Governor
The Plateau State governorship election petition tribunal in Jos has affirmed Caleb Mutfwang’s election.
Mutfwang, who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) banner, was declared the victor by the country’s impartial electoral body.
His opponent from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, however, went to court to have himself declared the winner on the grounds that the PDP lacked organisational structure and that there had been overvoting.
The petitioner also requested that votes from 14 polling units that were rejected by INEC be counted.
The tribunal, presided over by Justice. R. Irele-Ifineh, ruled that the petitioner lacked jurisdiction to challenge the party structure because the issues raised by the petitioner were pre election matters.
The tribunal also ruled that on September 25, 2021, PDP followed the Jos High Court’s order as delivered by Justice S.P. Gang by holding a fresh congress.
