Breaking News: Governor Sanwo-Olu submits a list of new nominees to the House of Assembly for review.
The screening process for the second group of nominees sent to them by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will begin tomorrow at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The screening committee, headed by Hon. Fatai Mojeed, was urged by Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to conduct a thorough screening and report back to the House on Thursday.
Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, the Clerk of the House, read a letter from the governor listing the names presented before the Speaker made his remarks.
Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote that some of the names had been resubmitted while others had been added.
The letter, titled “Forwarding of Official List of Nominees for Appointment as Commissioners and Special Advisers,” thanked the Speaker and the House for their hard work in vetting and approving 22 nominees recently.
“Your rigorous accessment of these nominees in adherence to your constitutional obligations demonstrates your dedication to ensuring a competent and effective council,” said Sanwo-Olu.
The governor said he had given the rejected names of 17 people careful thought, and had decided to resubmit a list of nominees that included both people who had previously been proposed and new names.
“This list represents a broad political spectrum and diverse backgrounds reflective of the rich diversity of our lovely state,” he wrote.
The governor expressed confidence that the new appointees would bring new ideas that would contribute to Lagos’s development.
He urged the House to conduct background checks on the nominees.
