GOV. Obaseki claims there is no plan to remove the Deputy Governor from office.

His legal action was a preventative measure taken before he defected to the APC.

Edo North officials have distanced themselves from Shaibu’s bid for governor.

There are no plans to impeach Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, as stated yesterday by Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

However, the governor pointed out that Shaibu’s attempt to halt his supposed impeachment by filing a lawsuit in advance of his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is preemptive.

This comes as the leaders of the senatorial district that Philip Shaibu represents in Edo State (Edo North) have distanced themselves from his bid for governor and warned him not to add fuel to the crisis.

Briefing journalists in Benin City during a visit by Edo North leaders, the governor said that the deputy governor has been actively engaging with senior actors both at the national and state level of the APC, negotiating his way into their party, and that he is on the verge of finalising moves to defect to the APC.

Let it be known that I am not aware of any plan or scheme to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu’, he said. Like you, I made sure there was no such scheme, and found none.
