New opportunities for immigrants from Nigeria and elsewhere have been created by Canada’s introduction of its first-ever immigration tech talent mechanism.
Germany recently passed an immigration law designed to attract more workers from outside the European Union, and the announcement of these new job openings comes just days after the law’s passage.
According to Toronto News, Canada’s talent strategy, unveiled at the 2023 Collision Conference in Toronto, includes both new and revised measures to help businesses in the country thrive in a competitive environment.
Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, made the following announcement yesterday: “Over the course of this year, Canada is going to be developing a specific stream for some of the world’s most highly talented people who will be able to come to Canada to work for tech companies regardless of whether they have a job offer or not.”
He announced plans to introduce a policy that would make it possible for people to work in Canada for up to six months under the auspices of an overseas employer.
Fraser revealed that talented people will live in communities across the county, spend money, and be allowed to remain and work in the country if they receive job offers while here.
Finally, we have been keeping a close eye on the tech industry in the US, where layoffs have been the subject of public discourse. Opportunities have been discussed in private between us,” he continued.
The minister has announced that beginning on July 16th, a new immigration program will be in place that will allow up to 10,000 Americans with H-1B visas to come work in Canada.

In 2022, the country accepted 437,120 Permanent Residents (PRs), an increase of nearly 8% from the number of PRs accepted in 2021. This information comes from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.
In Nigeria, it increased by 41.9% from the previous year’s total of 15,596 to a total of 22,130 in 2017.
Nearly 1.5 million new immigrants are expected to arrive in Canada over the next three years, after the federal government announced a massive plan to accept 500,000 immigrants annually by 2025.
We’re excited about our lofty immigration targets because they’re more than just a numbers game. “We’re looking for people who can help cement Canada’s position as a global leader in a wide range of emerging technologies,” Fraser explained.
A few days after the UK announced that it would limit the ability of international students to bring their families into the country beginning in 2019, Canada announced new measures to make it easier for the families of recent immigrants to relocate to the country.
In the same month, the government announced that it would use a category-based selection system for its express entry program in an effort to reduce labor shortages and stimulate the economy.
