Nigerians don’t agree with what the Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, did when it sent a popular skit maker and prankster, Maruf Abdullahi, also known as Trinity Guy, back to jail on charges that he sexualized a minor in a video that went viral.
The judge, Mrs. P.O. Adetuyibi, said that the skit maker and the parents of the minor, Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife, Rofiat, 29, should be held at Agodi Correctional Facility in Ibadan until July 11, when the case will be brought up again, according to Daily Tribune.
On a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation, the defendants were sent back to jail.
But Nigerians have had different reactions to the Magistrate’s order. They have taken to social media to say what they think about the situation.
Some people liked the verdict, saying that the skit maker’s jokes are always extreme and dangerous, but others thought it was too harsh, saying that the young man was just trying to make a living.
@temitayor_, a Twitter user who liked the news, said, “That video was horrible. I even couldn’t watch it. Whatever he gets, he deserves.”
“You made a great choice. “Any skits that aren’t moral or ethical should be stopped by any legal means,” @Gboladeogundel said.
@MawutinDeji, another Twitter user, said, “The eye of the law can’t be everywhere, but when it makes one OLORIKUNKUN a scapegoat, the other OLORIKUNKUNS will sit tight.Instead of pulling these silly pranks, these guys should sit down, use their brains, and write funny stuff for us to enjoy.
“His tricks were too dangerous, and the one with the child was not one of them at all. Waste of time. No matter what happens, he deserves it. This should teach other pranksters a lesson.” @ulsherlan Tweeted.
Another user, @Oyedele3890, had a different opinion. He said, “If there really is a God, God will win, because he was just a hustler who worked hard to support his family.”
@Bhorlarsax, is another user. “Please mix justice with kindness. Let this be his and everyone else’s last warning. Please Edakun Bikonu.”
“This is a shame.” Trinity is such a beautiful, happy person who keeps helping the community as much as he can. I think the law could show some mercy by checking his profile instead of punishing him for this silly joke. @DaisiObanla talked about.
After the Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called for his arrest over a dangerous prank, the prankster in trouble has become a hot topic online.
