Breaking News : DSS has uncovered a subversive plot against the Tinubu administration involving Emefiele.
The Department of State Services (DSS) reports that it has identified individuals and organizations that intend to conduct smear campaigns against it and the government in response to the suspension and investigation of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele.
Dr. Peter Afunanya, spokesman for the DSS, said in a statement issued yesterday evening that such groups intend to gather in Abuja and Lagos in the coming week with placards depicting the Service and government in a negative light and demanding the immediate release of Emefiele, according to The Nation.
“Therefore, the Service is aware of propaganda designed to demoralize and distract it from carrying out its arduous responsibilities professionally.
“It has also taken note of the misleading commentary, speculative narratives, storylines, and videos circulating in social media by uninformed parties, critics, and/or desperadoes.
“It is aware of plots to infiltrate its ranks in order to use disloyal employees for subversive purposes against its leadership.
”Although these actions are viewed as diversionary smear campaigns, the Service warns the plotters to immediately abandon their schemes. This is due to the fact that the arrow heads are already under surveillance and will be apprehended when necessary, he explained.
He stated that it was instructive to note that the Service had granted Emefiele’s family, medical officials, and other appropriate individuals access to him from the moment he was taken into custody and well before the court order requiring it.
According to him, the Service strictly follows standard operating procedures for suspect handling and investigation.
“It conducts its affairs transparently, professionally, and in accordance with democratic governance while respecting the rule of law.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it guarantees its professionalism with regard to the current matter(s) within its jurisdiction. However, it will not be distracted or intimidated,” said Afunanya.
