Former Aviation Minister Must be Arrested Now – Arewa Youths
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has demanded the immediate arrest and comprehensive investigation of the former Minister of Aviation for his role in the Nigeria Air scandal.
Alhaji Yerima Shettima, National President of AYCF, stated in a statement that Nigeria is not a banana republic where anything goes, and that Sirika and his cohorts should not be allowed to escape punishment for the national embarrassment they have caused.
The statement explained, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already begun to demonstrate that it will no longer be business as usual in Nigeria; he should go a step further by giving an immediate order to the anti-graft agency to bring Former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika to justice to serve as a deterrent to others in the future.”
It was stated that Sirika’s actions constitute deception and breach of trust, which should not go unpunished, and that he must be made to face the law, especially in light of his blatant disregard for the rule of law and the entire justice system by proceeding with the unveiling against the order of a court of law.
The statement added that the country’s national embarrassment and waste of resources could have been avoided if he had heeded advice.
According to him, the forum would be compelled to take legal action against the former minister if the EFCC failed to heed this national call and take the necessary steps immediately.The recent disclosure by the interim Managing Director of the airline, Captain Dapo Olumide, before the Senate Committee on Aviation, that the aircr
aft used for the launch of Nigeria Air was rented from Ethiopian Airlines, was a slap in the face, according to him.
He remarked that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should intervene immediately by arresting the former aviation minister for proper interrogation and prosecution, as opposed to the minister’s circling media outlets with unsatisfactory explanations.
He stated that they would also mobilize CSOs, activists, NGOs, students, and others to take to the streets across the nation until his arrest.
