Beyond Homemaking, Funmi Ayinke Adekojo Sheds Light on Women’s Potential

Funmi Ayinke Adekojo, CEO of Funmi Ayinke Nigeria Ltd and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s business community, recently gave a speech in which she praised the achievements of women and warned that limiting oneself to the role of a full-time housewife is a waste of one’s talents. Adekojo spoke about the significance of women being ambitious, hardworking, and career-focused in a fascinating interview on TVC’s esteemed talk show, Your View.

Adekojo is confident in the abilities of women and thinks they can accomplish anything.

She said, “What you do with your abilities is what makes you unique. You devalue yourself if you keep yourself confined to the four corners of your house.

The importance of wives to their husbands’ happiness was also emphasized by Adekojo. In her opinion, “every man wants a partner who they can share ideas and aspirations with.” Women’s potential to contribute and add value is diminished if they are confined to the home.

Adekojo drew on her own experiences as the wife of Professor Waheed Adekojo and her accomplishments, including winning the prestigious “Africa’s Best Rated Engineer Award,” to stress the importance of including one’s partner in one’s daily activities.

“I involve my husband in everything I do,” she said. Before making any announcements to the public, I consult with him. If you’re a professional woman who cares about her family, you should tell your husband everything.

Adekojo has been very open about the difficulties she has encountered in her humanitarian work. She has not wavered in her dedication despite the setbacks she has suffered at the hands of those who have taken advantage of her generosity. Adekojo is a firm believer that genuine acts of kindness should never be expected in return.Adekojo attributes her lifelong commitment to helping those in need to the values instilled in her by her parents.

She was raised by a single mother who went on to become a teacher and principal, and she credits her mother’s passion for education for shaping her own life and values. Adekojo’s promise to help women and girls if she ever became wealthy came from watching her mother devote herself to cooperative savings. During her time in the military, she negotiated with her superiors so that widows could receive kerosene on credit. Adekojo made it possible for the women to send their children to school regardless of their gender by giving them the means to sell the kerosene and repay her.

Therefore, helping widows was a driving force behind her establishing the Funmi Ayinke Foundation. Adekojo’s way of giving back is through her talent hunt show, in which she encourages young people to launch their own businesses based on their pitches.

She said, “While some pastors may not approve, the talent hunt serves as my way of tithing,” referring to the practice as her own personal form of tithing. Many well-off churches have members who are struggling financially, so I save my tithes for about five months before holding a talent show. Seeing successful businesses flourish as a result of this effort gives me great satisfaction. Tomatoes are shipped to me from farmers as far away as Kano thanks to the talent hunt program.

Adekojo was asked about the apparent success she has with every project she takes on, to which she replied, “There is no limit to what a woman can achieve.”

Among the many achievements of Funmi Ayinke Adekojo are those of a successful entrepreneur, engineer, singer, and wife. It is a testament to her exceptional leadership and dedication to making a difference that she has consistently worked to empower women and transform lives through a variety of initiatives.
