Supporters trekking to Kano over my victory should stop – Abba Gida-Gida

Abba Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, the incoming governor of Kano State, has urged those traveling from other parts of the country to Kano to abandon their journey.

Instead, he asked them to pray for his leadership to be inventive and guided in delivering the benefits of democracy.

Several social media platforms have reported that a young man has begun a trek from Suleja, Niger State, to congratulate the incoming governor of Kano.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Abba stated that the prayers were sufficient as a show of solidarity and celebration of his election victory, and not miles of trekking, especially given the country’s current state of insecurity.

He stated, “While thanking the supporters within and outside Kano State, the Governor-elect urged the trekkers to end their journey, as it may not be conducive to resolving the numerous economic and social challenges facing the incoming government upon its 29 May 2023 assumption of office.”

“The incoming Kano State government will be committed to a brighter future for the people, with security, health, education, economic, infrastructure, and good welfare for the elderly, civil servants, and private sector constituting the government’s motto under the leadership of Engr. Abba.

“As a Kano governor focused on the people, Engr. Abba has tasked everyone with ensuring the realization of Kwankwasiyya and the NNPP’s vision for responsive leadership that benefits all in the state.”
