INEC prohibits journalists from observing the distribution of election materials in Jigawa.

On Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Jigawa locked the media out while sorting and distributing sensitive election materials to the State’s 27 local government areas.

 

According to state reports, journalists were barred from entering the venue of the sorting and distribution of election materials after media practitioners arrived to witness the distribution.

 

According to Tribune Online, journalists abandoned and waited outside the CBN maintenance until the exercise was completed.

 

Professor Lawal Bashar, the state Electoral Commissioner, told reporters that all sensitive materials had been moved to the 27 LGAs.

 

According to him, according to CBN instructions, journalists are not permitted to enter and inspect the distribution and evacuation of materials such as result sheets and other auxiliaries.

 

While commenting on the recent Presidential and National Assembly elections, he stated that there was no report of late arrival of electoral materials anywhere in the state, despite media reports of how many polling units began late.

 

He stated that all Ad-hoc Commission staff will report to the LGAs headquarters early Friday morning for refresher training before returning to their respective areas of assignment.

 

Alhaji Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, the National Commissioner in charge of Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states, also stated that he was in Dutse to witness the distribution of electoral materials to the LGAs.
