Five suspected ritualists who operate in the Ijebu area of Ogun State have been caught by the police.

Detectives from the Odogbolu divisional police headquarters detained the suspects on Saturday. They are Oshole Fayemi, 60; Osemi Adesanya, 39; Ismaila Seidu, 30; Oseni Oluwasegun, 69; and Lawal Olaiya, 50.

The five-man gang was apprehended while attempting to carry out another round of corpse exhumation in the town. The group is suspected of removing corpses from their graves in the Ososa-Ijebu area and harvesting their body parts for ritual use.

Five of the suspects were arrested after it was reported that CSP Godwin Idehai, the DPO of the Odogbolu division, learned of the plot, rallied his men, and stormed the suspects’ hideout.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP) with Ogun Police, confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

He claimed that the suspects had admitted in their confessional statements that they had engaged in the practice of exhuming corpses and selling the harvested organs to eager buyers for monetary rituals.

The suspects are to be forwarded to State Criminal Investigation Departments for covert investigation and potential prosecution, as per the direction of Police Commissioner Frank Mba.
