Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has debunked rumors that he has launched a new plot against Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Such a news story published in today’s edition of The Nation was deemed fabricated by him.

The Governor disclosed this information today in a statement signed by Mr. Isa Abdulmumin, Acting Director of Corporate Communications for the CBN.

Emefiele stated, “The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to a story published in The Nation on March 13, 2023, alleging that the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has launched a “new plot against the President-elect.”

“According to the aforementioned report, the Governor has made a sum of money available to a candidate ahead of the 18 March 2023 gubernatorial election.

“We would like to inform the public that this story is completely false and malicious, as the CBN Governor has never met or spoken with Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour in person or by proxy.

“We wish to reaffirm that the CBN Governor does not participate in politics, and we call on anyone with contrary information to disprove the Governor’s assertions with evidence.

“Therefore, the Governor and his team at the CBN should be allowed to focus on their assigned duties in order to fulfill the Bank’s statutory mandate.”
