The Senator representing Anambra Central, Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was reportedly booed on Saturday in Awka with a chant of “Obi! Obi!!” when she tried to propagate PDP as the party to vote for, come 2023.

The incident took place at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters in Awka, Anambra State when she came around to monitor the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration exercise.

The sleeping dog was woken up from sleep when Ekwunife began to appeal to the large crowd of young men and women that were at the INEC office waiting to be registered, to consider PDP in next year’s election when casting their votes.

It was at this point that the crowd simultaneously began to shout down on her with the chant of “Obi! Obi!! Labour Party all the way!!!” and at this point, her security personnel whisked her into her SUV car and they zoomed off.

Following this development, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, directed INEC security personnel not to allow politicians to address the registrants anymore to forestall possible breakdown of law and order at the INEC state Headquarters.

Senator Ekwunife who is also the PDP Senatorial Candidate for the 2023 elections, was said to have distributed among the registrants and INEC officials some drinks and other edibles with the intent to impress her candidacy on the would-be voters within Anambra Central Senatorial District.

The Senator who addressed the people on her efforts to ensure that INEC brought more machines was, however, applauded by the registrants who were majorly made up of youths before she veered off to subtly canvas for votes.
