The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, has said that Delta State was a very sensitive State in the nation because “it is a transient route to many parts of the country,” as well as host to “many of the multinational companies and oil-rich states in the Country.”

NSCDC image Maker in delta State, Dsc Emeka Peters Okwechime, said in a statement on Thursday that the Command was assuring that it would “provide adequate security coverage and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure” having deployed 1,981 of its personnel for a hitch-free public holidays and Sallah celebrations.

The statement reads: “Protection of life and property is the watch word and the passion of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The Corps’ resilience and proactive nature to combat crime and Criminality is second to none.

“This is why the Delta State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akinsanya Iskilu Abiodun, is deploying a total of 1,981 personnel to provide adequate security coverage and protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during and after the public holidays and the Sallah celebrations.

“The Commandant Stated that the personnel have been strategically positioned in places of worship, public buildings, recreational parks, markets, motor parks, etc., to provide adequate security coverage, and to gather firsthand information from the public on anyone who intends to cause public unrest and to forestall any resultant effects.

“The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Akinsanya I A, who approved the deployment stated that Delta State is a very sensitive State in the Nation. It is a transient route to many parts of the country. It also hosts many of the multinational companies and oil-rich state in the Country. To this effect we are deploying 1,981 personnel to secure all life and government critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the State before, during and after the celebrations.

“The NSCDC Boss maintained that the personnel were drafted from the Tactical Squad, the Anti-Vandal Unit, the Agro-Rangers, Counter Terrorism Unit CTU, the Rapid Respond Unit, Operations Dept, the Snipper Combatant(Female Squad) and the Department of Intelligence and Investigation (DII)

“The Commandant, therefore, directed all Area Commander’s, Divisional Officers, Component Commander’s and the Squadron Leaders to supervise and monitor the deployed officers to operate within the extant laws and discharge their duty with professionalism in line with international best practices and standard.

“While felicitating with all Muslims, the State Commandant urged Deltans to be security conscious as they go about their legitimate businesses during the upcoming public holiday.

“He urged all Deltans to be resolute and law abiding citizens and go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation. He charged them to say something when they see something; that their identity will not be disclosed.

“Meanwhile, the Commandant used the opportunity to call on parents and guidance to watch over their wards during the long public holidays and monitor their activities, the friends they keep, the things they do, watch, and as well the places they go to, in order not to be involved or lured into crime.  He also admonished all Muslim faithful to show love to one another, that with genuine love and sacrifice, Nigeria will be great again, if love leads.

“He felicitated will all Muslim faithful and prayed for a hitch-free Sallah Celebrations in advance and a peaceful public holidays ahead.”
