Dismissed soldier, 2 others docked over alleged motorcycle theft

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday, granted a dismissed soldier, Tumininu Olaniyan N500,000 bail.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trio of Olaniyan, Tunde Oyeniyi, 24 and Adeleke Ayodele, 25, all of no fixed address, were arraigned on three-counts of conspiracy, stealing and impersonation.

The defendants, however, all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Patricia Adetuyibi, granted the first and third defendants bail in the sum of N450,000 with two sureties each in like sum while Olaniyan was admitted to N500,000 bail with two sureties.

Adetuyibi said that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till June 26, for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Salewa Hammed told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to steal a Bajaj motorcycle in Ibadan.

“On March 9, at about 1:03p.m., at Apadi, Ayegun area, Ibadan, Oyeniyi, Olaniyan and Ayodele allegedly stole a Bajaj motorcycle with Reg. No: 255 UR with red colour valued N400,000 from its owner

“A smart cell phone the victim was holding valued N51,000 was allegedly stolen alongside with the motorcycle with total valued N451,000, property of one Hassan Abubakar

“Olaniyan went around posing to be a serving member of Nigeria Armed Forces after he had been dismissed from service,” Hammed said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 108, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)
