Blackout hits Warri, Uvwie communities

Major areas of Warri South and Uvwie local government areas have been without electricity supply since Tuesday, 8th March, 2022.

The affected areas as at the time of filing this report were the Otovwodo (Agbassa) Community, Ginuwa, Ometan, Igbi, Father Healey, Ometan, Cemetery Road, Lower Erejuwa, Iyara, Omatsola Crescent, Rubber Plantation, Okumaga Avenue and Okumagba Estate, among others in Warri South Local Government Area.

While Ekpan and Jakpa Road were among the areas that have been bedevilled with the issue no light in Uvwie Local Government Area.

The President of Okere Urhobo Development Movement, Brume Eyikpimi, complained that Otor-rere, the traditional headquarters of Okere Urhobo Kingdom had suffered power outage for five days.

The immediate past President of Okere Urhobo Development Movement, Cyril Eboh, also complained that the Kosini area of Okumagba Layout was without electricity supply for four days and counting.

A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Warri Main Motor Park complained that the Iyara area had been experiencing power blackout since last week.

All the respondents called on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to restore power to their areas.

A BEDC official who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, disclosed that there was a problem the 33 lines of the electricity distribution company.

He disclosed also that they were seriously effecting repairs on the faulty lines and expressed hope that power would be restored to the affected areas after the repairs in no distant time. (Delta State News Bulletin)
