Akunyili’s community declares 3 days mourning, suspends political activities

The Agulu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday declared three-days mourning in the area following the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili on Tuesday and one Mr Azubuike on Tuesday by unknown gunmen.

The President-General, Carataker Committee of the community, Sir Onyebuchi Okpala, made the declaration while speaking to journalists on Wednesday.

He said that Mr Azubuike Anikwata from Ifiteani Village Agulu who came back from Turkey was building an industry in the community before he met his untimely death in the hands of the unknown gunmen who struck at Madonna area of the town.

He pointed out that another attack at Nkpor Junction claimed the life of Dr Chike Akunyili husband to former Director General of NAFDAC late Prof Dora Nkem Akunyili.

The PG said: “On this note we Ndi Agulu in general have commenced a three days mourning from today, Wednesday, September 29 to October 1, 2021.

“All political activities in the community is hereby suspended during the mourning period.”

Okpala called on Anambra State government to beef up security in the state and quickly visit the families of the deceased and pay condolences.
