Long Service: Lagos honours 900 public officers

The Lagos State govern­ment on Tuesday honoured 900 public servants who have meritoriously served the state in the past 30 years and above.

The state Head of Ser­vice, Hakeem Muri-Okuno­la, while congratulating the awardees his virtual address, urged them not to rest on their oars but contin­ue to exhibit a high sense of responsibility and commit­ment to duty with loyalty to their duties.

He enjoined public ser­vants in the state to keep up good attitude to work and perform their duties diligently to enhance the successful implementation of the THEMES agenda of the state government.

“A significant number of public servants have been re­warded with the award since its inception in Y2006. In this 14th edition, a total num­ber of 900 officers received awards in continuation of this tradition of excellence. Let me reiterate that your celebration today represents the state government’s appre­ciation of your contributions over last 30; years or more to the growth and development of Lagos State”, he said.

Okunola assured the pub­lic servants of government’s continued efforts to give staff welfare a premium place in the scheme of things in the state.

“You should not rest on your oars, but continue to exhibit a high sense of responsibility and com­mitment to duty with unal­loyed loyalty, which today’s recognition and celebration have been designed, while on our own, I can assure you of government’s efforts at giving staff welfare a pre­mium place in the scheme of things”, he said.

The Head of Service urged the public servants to take full advantage of the latest ICT, particularly with the change in work brought about by the Covid-19 pan­demic.

In her goodwill message, the Chairman Civil Service Commission, Olubunmi Fabamwo, congratulated the awardees, expressing ap­preciation to them for their modest contributions to the state.

She said many of the awardees joined the service in their youths and have pos­itively impacted the state, urging them to strive higher, she noted that the sky was their limit. (Courtesy, Daily INDEPENDENT)
