Suspected armed bandits on Saturday disrupted the voting process during the State Assembly election in Oroji village in Rini ward of Bakura local government area of Zamfara state.

A voter identified as Suleiman Muhammad Rini told Daily Trust that at about 8:30 am when election officials arrived at the polling unit for voting proper to start, a group of armed men suddenly appeared from a forest and headed to the polling unit.

“We, including the election officials scampered for safety. However, security operatives including police and soldiers were alerted and they quickly mobilized to the area. They successfully dislodge the armed criminals and voting has since started,” he said.

Meanwhile, security operatives had to fire gunshots into the air in order to restore law and order at the Shiyyar Galadima 008 polling units in Rini village.

There was also an attempt to create chaos by the thugs at the polling units but security operatives arrived immediately and rounded off the suspected thugs.

Trouble started when the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Yahaya Chado Gora, ex-commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Muttaka Rini, and the state PDP zonal vice chairwoman Hajiya A’i Maradun arrived at the polling unit.

However, law and order eventually restored and voting continued. (Daily Trust)
