A 31-year-old man, Sunday Eyim, has been arrested by Police operatives attached to the State Commissioner of Police Awka, for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.

The suspect, an indigene of Uruana village, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to have defiled the girl in his room.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said the victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination where penetration was confirmed.

The statement reads in part: “On the 13/7/2020 following a tip off, Police operatives attached CPS Awka arrested one Sunday Eyim ‘m’ aged 31 years of Oruana village Amawbia in Awka South LGA of Anambra State.

“Suspect had on the 11/7/2020 allegedly defiled a 4-year-old girl in his room. Scene was visited by police detectives and victim taken to the hospital for medical examination where penetration was confirmed.”

Mohammed said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. John B. Abang, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal investigation Department, Awka, for discreet investigation after which suspect would be charged to court for prosecution. He enjoined members of the Public, particularly parents/guardians to be watchful and caution their children against strangers.

The statement urged parents to teach their children to report any person making sexual advance or harassing them to enable the parent take a proactive measure before it becomes intractable.

“The public should also be security conscious at all times and always report suspicious rape cases in their neighbourhood to the nearest Police stations for prompt action,” it added.
