39 strippers, imam arrested in Lagos for violating lockdown order

The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested a total number of 39 strippers in a Lagos club and a Muslim cleric for violating the lockdown order.

The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, said: “On 24/4/2020, at about 01:30hours, acting on credible intelligence, operatives from Idimu Police Station arrested 39 suspects in a hotel at Idimu, for clubbing and stripping. This is in total violation of the lockdown.”

In a related development, an Islamic cleric, Suleiman Abubakar, was also nabbed by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for violating the lockdown order with his members.

The police spokesman said: “On 24/4/2020, at about 20:30 hours, enforcement team from the Rapid Response Squad arrested one Suleiman Abubakar, the Imam of Sheik Central Mosque, Mile 12, Ketu, for holding evening prayers (Maghrib and Isha prayers) in the mosque with a large number of worshippers, in violation of the social distancing regulations.”

He added that a total of 288 violators of the lockdown order were over the weekend arrested in different parts of the state.  (Daily Independent)
