COVID-19: NAFDAC begins clampdown on fake hand sanitizer producers in Ebonyi

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has revealed its readiness to begin clampdown on fake hand sanitizer producers in Ebonyi state.

The Ebonyi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Dr. Kolawole Isaac, made this known while speaking with journalists at his visit to Ebonyi State Vocational College, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital.

Kolawole, who stormed the college to inspect thousands of hand sanitizer and face masks produced by the college through the directive of the state governor, David Umahi.

He certified it for use in the 13 local government areas of the state as a palliative to remedy the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

He commended the state governor and management of the College for the hygienic nature of the environment, the branding and the quality of the sanitizers and face masks which according to him meets international and NAFDAC standards.

According to him, “I have critically assessed all the face masks and sanitizers. They all meet our standards. I hereby declare that they should be used by people with efforts expedited to ensure these products get registered soon.”

Responding, the Special Assistant to the governor on Vocational Education, Mrs Adaeze Nwaji, said the purpose for embarking into the production of the said thousands of hand sanitizer and face masks was to make sure that the farmers in rural areas who have no money to buy sanitizers, would get the products to avert the spread of COVID-19 into the state.

“The College embarked on this production of this hand sanitizers and face masks as its token of support to the state government with the purpose to fight to finish the ravaging of COVID-19.”

“No doubt, our governor has shown sincerity of purpose and tenacity in his fight against corona virus in the state. This is evident when he closedown both land and sea borders linking Ebonyi to other states.

“Umahi equally ensured the enforcement of No-mask-no-movement order in the state with intention to forestall entrance of the dreaded coronavirus into the state,” she noted.

Nwaji further revealed the preparedness of the college to start the production of ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres in the state; “I am optimistic that very soon we will start producing ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres,” she stressed.
