Chadian forces have liberated Nigerian and Nigerian territories previously occupied by Boko Haram terrorists, according to Communiqué on Operation Fury of Boma issued Thursday by the Office of Chief of Defence and Security Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Chad.

“The Chadian forces launched attacks on all Boko Haram fronts for eight days. With courage and determination our forces have either neutralised or driven away Boko Haram insurgents from all the Islands of Niger and Nigeria within the fringes of Lake Chad on 31 March 2020 under the supervision of President Idriss Deby in his capacity of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Rep of Chad,” said the communique signed at Baga Solla by Col Benendoua Azen Aguna on April 9, 2020.

Continuing, the communiqué translated from French by Prof Khalifa Dikwa, Borno State in North-eastern Nigeria, said: “We regret to announce the death of our 52 soldiers while 186 suffered various degrees of wounds. On the other hand, as many as 1,000 Boko Haram fighters were neutralised with many war machines either seized or destroyed, among which were huge cachés of small and large arms. Also destroyed were 50 canoes.

“Currently, our troops are occupying all the Islands of Niger and Nigeria in the fringes of Lake Chad waiting for the arrival of troops from the neighbouring sister countries to take over from us.”
