Nigerians blast Lawan over statement on southern governors meeting
By OMON OKHUEVBIE
Nigerians have reacted to the statement of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who cautioned the 17 Southern Governors by stating they should restructure their individual states before calling for restructuring at the Federal level.
A Twitter handle, @ayemojubar stated “How does Lawan expect Southern Governors to restructure their states when they are not in control of their resources FG monopolised on the exclusive and concurrent lists? Lawan (PhD, CON) indeed.”
@ayemojubar further tweeted “Voice of Gbaja and Lawan, hands of Buhari. Southern Governors have agreed on restructuring, and no going back on that decision. It’s either you restructure now or wait till when the governors call for self-determination themselves.”
@Samcleave_GZLA on Twitter also wrote “The North has 72% of the Nigeria landmass, same North is so invested in seeing the establishment of RUGA in the South with 28%. This is not about cow herding, it’s about land grabbing. The Southern Governors already banned open grazing here and 1m Lawans cannot stop this order.”
A Microbiologist and entrepreneur, Ibitayo Martins tweeted on his account, @IBITAYO_MARTINS.
“If the once coming together of the southern governors is what is giving the Government and the Northern leaders headache (despite all the meetings of the northern leaders has held before), I think it’s just an eye opener that there’s an hidden agendas.”
Another tweet from, @UNCLE_AJALA said, “Senate president, Lawan blast Southern governors over call for restructuring.
“Why are Northerners scared of restructuring? Why are they against banning of open grazing in Southern Nigeria? Are they ok with how Fulani herdsmen are destroying farmlands? Something is wrong.” (Daily Independent)
