‘Shame on you, your country’s on fire and you’re hiding in UK’: HURIWA blasts Buhari

Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to cover his face in ‘unmitigated shame’ that he fled away to a United Kingdom’s hospital maintained by the British taxpayers and enjoying the formidable security provided by the efficiently and professionally administered security services of the British but his home nation is on fire from armed non state actors killing, maiming and destroying lives and property.

HURIWA said it was incomprehensible that someone who spent over a decade campaigning to be elected the Nigerian President, but as soon as he got the historic opportunity to govern the political entity called the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the same retired person has displayed “crass irresponsibility and total incapacity and unwillingness” to govern Nigeria and deliver good governance to the citizens but “has allowed nepotism, corruption and  widespread violence and insecurity to overwhelm and dominate his nation and he runs away intermittently to the western world to receive the best of medical services whereas he has destroyed the Nigerian health care system and all other strategic infrastructures.”

Besides, HURIWA has condemned the governments of Ebonyi and Anambra States for failing in their primary duties to protect the lives and property of their citizens.

The rights group deplored the incessant bloodshed and coordinated killings of the citizens of Ebonyi state by both the armed Fulani herdsmen and some sponsored armed militants who are on rampage in some parts of the state in a genocidal adventure to wipe out some minority communities in their local government areas, describing the government of Governor David Umahi as grossly incompetent and inefficient.

HURIWA disclosed that the major plank of the blame is “on the poorly performing government of President Buhari for the porosity of the nation to series of armed non state actors such as bandits, terrorists and Fulani herdsmen, including the emerging externally induced terrorism in the Southern Nigerian states classified as ‘Unknown Gunmen’.” It therefore asked the “incompetent” President to quit to save Nigeria from collapse.

HURIWA said it noted with immense pains and agony that barely 24 hours after eight people were killed in Adani, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by gunmen, a Methodist priest and 17 other indigenes of Egedegede, Obegu and Amuzu communities in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were on Monday evening, gruesomely killed by rampaging herdsmen who invaded the communities. The car belonging to the Methodist priest was also burnt by the herdsmen. But the police in Ebonyi said only six people were killed.

But HURIWA said it learnt that not less than 18 or even 30 persons were killed by the herdsmen in Ishielu.

It noted that the unabated killings and destruction of properties in Effium and Ezza-Effium communities in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is symptomatic of a failing nation and a sign that the Ebonyi State governor is so grossly incompetent and inefficient to a ridiculous extent.

HURIWA said that all that the governor does is to fold his hands and allow his people to be slaughtered like animals by both external and internal terrorists, some with connections to the government in Abakaliki but only for him to run crying like an old man who does not have any creative idea on how to stop the mindless murders and genocidal killings going on in his state.

“What does the Ebonyi State government do with the huge security votes on monthly basis and why is President Buhari, who controls both the Nigerian police and the Department of State Services seems unconcerned when armed Fulani herdsmen unleashed unmitigated slaughter of the citizens of Ebonyi and many other states?”

HURIWA stated further: “The President has now shamelessly run off to a hospital that works in a country that is well protected by their elected leaders but he has abandoned his primary responsibilities of protecting Nigerians and refused to even do the constitutionally mandated transition of temporary power to Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo.”

The rights group said that it is regrettable that the absentee President prefers to let Nigeria run as an autopiloted contraption with mindless killings of innocent people going on, on daily basis and the security agencies lacking the political will to crush these armed non state actors who are well known to the security forces whose heads are heavily compromised but these killings must not continue.

“The people of Nigeria must collectively find a way out to repossess Nigeria from these murderous mafia killers who are going about their diabolical assignment as if they have the blessing of the Federal government to decimate, degrade and destroy the good people of Nigeria to satisfy an agenda of those in the West and Europe working to depopulate the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

HURIWA then asked: “Why does President Buhari celebrate failures amongst the security forces who control states’ commands whereby these unwarranted attacks and killings take place? Is the President such a sadist that he cannot dismiss these inefficient Police Commissioners and Directors of DSS in those front-line states of these satanic attacks and bloodbath?

“Is the President of the biggest black nation so reckless and lawless that he does not care that his citizens are killed in their numbers daily and the security forces are deliberately manipulated to appear like they are overwhelmed?”
