Some Bayelsa residents at Amarata area of Yenagoa on Monday foiled an armed robbery attempt as they rescued the victim and recovered N10 million cash.

It was learnt that the armed robbers who operated in a black SUV trailed the victim from GT Bank Amarata branch where the customer withdrew the cash and shot severally at the victim who refused to stop along Sani Abach Expressway.

An eye witness, Mary Fabi, said that the armed robbers shot at the tyres of the victim’s vehicle after he resisted being forced to stop, a development that forced the vehicle to skid off to the other side of the road and somersaulted severally and hit a tricycle.

The accident caused a traffic build-up on the busy road as sympathisers who immediately gathered at the scene overwhelmed the armed robbers who escaped without the targeted cash.

The efforts of the sympathisers who gathered at the scene reportedly prevented the armed robbers from taking possession of the cash.

A Correspondent who arrived at the scene reports that a police team and sympathisers were seen rescuing the accident victim, a commercial tricyclist operator, the victim and the cash.

It was gathered that the police team at the commercial bank who responded to the distress call returned the recovered cash to the bank while the victims were taken to a nearby health facility for medical attention.

When contacted Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police and Spokesman of the Police Command in Bayelsa said he was yet to get full information concerning the incident.

He promised to revert with details.
