Ohanaeze Ndigbo to roll out scholarship programmes, empower orphans, indigent students

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is to roll out scholarship programmes for orphans, distribute 7,000 face masks and other palliatives to cushion the effect of COVID-19 in the seven speaking Igbo states.

The newly elected factional President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo group, Chief Chidi Ibeh on Tuesday revealed this in a press statement made available to DAILY INDEPENDENT in Abakaliki.

Ibeh noted that they would also offset bills of 700 students writing WAEC and NECO in the seven States, noted that they were partnering with a philanthropic organization to achieve actualization of the programs.

According to him, there will be distributions of face marks and other palliatives in major markets and public schools for the protection of our kids and teachers from COVID-19 pandemic nothing that the distribution will commence from 1st February.

He assured the people that the new Ohanaeze must meet the challenges of Ndigbo headlong and restore the confidence of Igbos in Ohanaeze Ndigbo stressing that they are aware that Igbos are losing faith in Ohanaeze Ndigbo based on the elitist nature.

The statement reads in part, “We will partner with a philanthropic organization to give qualitative education to orphans and we are enrolling free scholarship programs for orphans, we will offer the opportunity for 700 students writing WAEC and Neco from 7 speaking Igbo states.

“We will roll out 7,000 face marks for the seven Igbo speaking states including Anioma Delta and Rivers states which will be distributed in major markets and public schools in the protection of our kids and teachers from COVID-19 pandemic, starting from 1st February 2021.

“We must meet the challenges of Ndigbo headlong and restore the confidence of Igbos in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, we are aware that Igbos are losing faith in Ohanaeze Ndigbo based on the elitist nature and agendas of past leaderships and regimes.

“Drastic measures will be put in place for the resuscitation of Igbos faith in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a lot of indigenous Igbo people in Benue, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, and Edo will be identified and given necessary supports to be proud Igbos.” (Daily Independent)
