Gunmen kill policeman, cart away his rifle in Kaduna
A Police Officer was reportedly shot to death, and his rifle carted away, by unknown gunmen on Saturday night along Jos Street in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Mobile Police Officer (MOPOL), identified as Sgt. John Auta, was said to have been working at Wonderland Hotel Anex on Ogbomoso Street, were the Kafanchan Divisional Police Officer (DPO) lodges.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed to journalists that the victim was ordered by the DPO to take a suspect who was apprehended for smoking Indian hemp to the Divisional Police Headquarters.
The source said: “While the Police Officer was on his way back from the station on foot, he was shot to death, and his corpse was later discovered by some Police Officers on Patrol duty.”
When contacted, the state police spokesperson Mohammed Jalige, said he had no report of the incident but promised to get back with the details.
