Kidnap : Students seek special security arrangement for lecturers

The Coalition of Youth and Students Organizations in Nigeria (CYSON) has called on security agencies to ensure special protection to lecturers over incessant attack and kidnap.
Reacting to the recent kidnap of lecturers of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, in Zaria, the coalition Chairman, Comrade Adamu Adamu Matazu, told newsmen Thursday in Kaduna that university lecturers have become endangered species.
He lamented that the education sector which is already threatened with poor welfare of lecturers, will suffer a bigger blow, if lecturers are exposed to dangers of kidnapping.
Matazu commended the ABU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, and the University Security Services on the successful rescue of Dr. Bako, a lecturer with the Department of Human Psychology who was kidnapped on Monday, November 23, 2020, when kidnappers invaded his quarters at the university’s main campus, Samaru, Zaria.
He also hailed the efforts of the university management towards the rescue of Dr. Bako.
He noted with delight, the use of human intelligence, local vigilantes and community approach in cracking the recent case of up surge in kidnapping and other criminal activities that have been recorded in the university in the past few months.
Matazu described the Vice Chancellor as a leader with uncommon dexterity, courage and foresight.
“His actions have sent a clear warning to all criminal bandits, kidnappers and armed robbers that, under his watch no stone will be left unturned in safeguarding the lives and properties of staff, students and anybody living or coming into the university for one legitimate business or the other,” he said.
He however urged the ABU Vice Chancellor not to be deterred but remain determined and resolute in the pursuit of justice especially on the arrested criminals and their collaborators, this should be done using every might at the disposal of the university to serve as deterrence to other intending criminal elements.
“ABU is now safe for the return of Students especially now that the nine-month old ASUU strike has come to an end and academic activities set to resume soon,” he stated.
He called on institutions and other private establishments to step up their game and have a local security arrangement in collaboration with the nation’s security agencies to contain the criminality of these violent elements.
