Soldiers gun down four suspected armed robbers in Delta

Four suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by men of the Delta State Police Command, alongside a vigilante group in Oviorie Community, Ethiope East council area of Delta state.

The Nation gathered that the incident occurred Friday night, while the hoodlums were on the run.

According to reports, the suspects were gunned down by the operatives after robbing some residents of the community.

The armed hoodlums were reported to have engaged the police team deployed to the area in a gun battle running over 30 minutes.

However, the policemen and the vigilante members were able to subdue them, leading to the killing of four members of the gang said to be about eight.

Other members reportedly escaped during the gun exchange.

Some arms recovered from the deceased include two locally made guns and a tricycle, otherwise known as ‘Keke Napep’.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident on Monday.

She said the late armed robbers were operating at Oviorie and Ovu communities when they were killed, adding that efforts are on to apprehend other fleeing suspects. (The Nation)
