Bandits kill police officer, 16 others in Katsina

No fewer than 16 people and a police officer have been killed by armed bandits in Duskuru village of Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.

SP Gambo Isah, the State Police Command spokesman, who confirmed the attack to journalists added that about 300 armed bandits with AK47 rifles attacked the village in the early hours of Thursday.

He revealed that 14 persons were killed during the attack on the Duskuru village while four vigilante members and one policeman were killed during the shootout with the date devil armed bandits.

Gambo, however, explained that the attack was a reprisal attack by the bandits to avenge the killing of their members in an earlier attack on the village.

Speaking to newsmen in an interview, a resident of the village who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that the attack has left 15 residents of the town dead while several others sustained different degrees of injuries.

He therefore appealed to the security agencies to always provide them with cover against bandits attack. (Daily Independent)
