The Police in Benue State on Saturday repelled some hoodlums who allegedly attempted to barricade roads around the Woodland Park in Makurdi metropolis of the state.

Our correspondent gathered from some residents in the area that there was panic about 3:00pm when the police engaged the hoodlums allegedly protesting EndSARS.

The residents had alleged that there was a shoot-out on both sides of the divide.

But, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, DSP Catherine Anene, denied any shooting in the encounter.

“Hoodlums tried to block the road and were repelled immediately. There was no exchange of fire,” Anene said.

Daily Trust however observed beefed up security around Makurdi metropolis even as the police mounted an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicle in front of Police Headquarters in Makurdi.

Meanwhile, the Benue youth on Friday night lit their candles at the IBB Square in Makurdi in protest against what they described as the socioeconomic and political darkness that covers the nation.

The protesters who earlier shelved their protest after being addressed by Governor Samuel Ortom on Tuesday, said they had also lightened their candles in memory of their fallen comrades in Lekki, Oyigbo and other parts of the country as they prayed God for the deceased to find their paths to eternal rest and knowing the struggle they died for would not end in vain.
