Reps rescind passage of water resources bill

The House of Representatives on Tuesday suspended further work on the controversial National Water Resources Bill, 2020 pending when it is regazetted and clean copies circulated to members.
The decision followed a point of order of privilege moved by Rep. Benjamin Mzondu, from Benue, who noted that his privilege was breached when he was denied the opportunity of reading the bill before it gets to the Committee of the Whole which bordered on the breach of house rules requiring that a bill be regazzetted before it could be reconsidered.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, therefore urged the committee on Rules and Business to observe the necessary procedures laid down in the House rules before slating the document for consideration. (Daily Independent)
