Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has said that political parties will be allowed to begin campaigns on November 20, for the local government elections coming up on Saturday December 19, 2020.
The Commission also noted that training of permanent staff of ABSIEC will run from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th November 2020, while training of ad-hoc staff, from Monday 30th November to Friday 4th Dec. 2020
Among the time table and schedule of activities leading to December 19th 2020 local government elections in the state are, issuance of notice of date for the Local government election, 11th September 2020, collection of forms for election by political parties, 25th September, 2020, conducts of primaries by Political Parties including resolution of disputes arising from primaries, 21st September – 21st October 2020.
Others are, submission of names of candidates to ABSIEC by Political Parties, 29th October to the 12th November, 2020, screening of candidates by ABSIEC, Monday 16th November to Friday 27th November 2020, hearing of appeal / complaints by Screening Committee, Wednesday 2nd December to Thursday 3rd December, 2020, replacement of unqualified candidates and screening of replaced candidates, Monday 7th December, 2020, notice of withdrawal of nomination (if any) by candidates, Tuesday 8th December to Wednesday 9th December, 2020 and submission of final list/nomination forms by Political Parties, Thursday 10th December, 2020.
Also outlined are, submission of names of polling agents for the election to the electoral officers of the local government area, Monday 7th December to Friday 11th December, 2020, return of list of candidates declared qualified to contest election, Friday 11th December 2020, last day for campaigns, Wednesday, 16th December, 2020, announcement of results, Saturday 19th December 2020, and run-off elections (where necessary), Wednesday 24th December, 2020.
