Business woman, man docked over alleged public fighting

A businesswoman, Hassan Amudat, 42, and Akeem Lateef, 40, were, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged public fighting.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 29, around 06:30 pm. at Stadium Market, Road 7, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendants engaged each other in a fight in a public place.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 83 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of breach of public peace preferred against them.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Babawale Omodogbe, applied for the bail for the defendants in the most liberal term, promising that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, A. A. Ayeni, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000, with one surety each in like sum.
Ayeni said that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means, reside within the court jurisdiction’s jurisdiction and provide three recent passport photographs.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 8, for mention. (NAN)
