COVID-19: Oko Poly manufactures solar-powered hand washing machine
The facility, designed by engineers from the polytechnic, will be used to control the spread of the pandemic within the institution and beyond.
Unveiling the machine, Rector of the polytechnic, Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo, commended the polytechnic’s Anti-COVID-19 Technical Team, led by Mr Christopher Osuji, an engineer, for their steadfastness and promptness in producing the multi-purpose machine.
“The materials used in the production of the machine are all produced by the school. The effectiveness of the machine is guaranteed for a period of at least five years, whereas solar equipment lasts more than 25 years.”
“Very soon, the table water that is fully automated and paints that are also locally produced by the institution will be launched,” the Rector told newsmen during the unveiling ceremony last week.
She explained that the automated device at the institution will be used to control the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic within the institution and beyond (government ministries and agencies, churches, markets and other institutions within the school radius.
The rector informed that the school has plans to produce 100 automated machines, initially for sale throughout the country to limit the spread of the pandemic. To achieve this, financial assistance is being sought from the federal and state governments, as well as from companies for mass production of the machines.
COVID-19 is still prevalent in Nigeria despite the preventive measures put in place by the federal and state governments.
The country has also recorded several deaths spread round the states. It is in this context that The Federal Polytechnic, Anambra State decided to set up an automatic solar-powered anti-Covid-19 disinfection machine.
