The initiative is in conjunction with Agege Local Government, and is targeted at deepening financial inclusion, creating jobs and improving access to banking services.
alt bank has further extended its community banking project in Lagos State with the inauguration of six AltBoxes across Agege Local Government Area to bring financial services closer to people, traders and small business owners.
The program, inaugurated on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in conjunction with Agege Local Government, seeks to improve access to financial services, foster local economic engagement and generate employment prospects within the communities.
The project was executed in partnership with Agege Local Government under the leadership of Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa.
The AltBox idea will provide locals with banking services at specific locations within their communities, so they won’t have to drive far to traditional banking shops.
The strategy is designed to make banking more comfortable for individuals, dealers and small scale entrepreneurs who depend on accessible financial services for their daily transactions and commercial activities.
Mohammed Yunusa, Divisional Head, Digital Banking and Commerce at alt bank, commenting on the effort said: “This project is a reflection of our commitment to expanding financial inclusion through solutions that meet the needs of local communities.
“Financial inclusion must address the real needs of communities. “We are bringing banking closer to the residents, making access more convenient and supporting greater participation in the formal financial system with these AltBoxes,” Yunusa added.
The six facilities are part of the bank’s larger ambition to construct an AltBox in each of the seven wards of Agege Local Government Area.
The bank said the launch highlighted the need of working together with government agencies to develop solutions that are driven by communities and that promote access to finance and economic engagement.
alt bank also said it’s open to working with other local and state governments interested in adopting similar methods to bring banking services to their inhabitants.
This effort is in line with the bank’s broader commitment toward financial inclusion and economic empowerment as part of its objective of Creating Wealth.
alt bank began operations in January 2014 as a non-interest banking window within Sterling, before it obtained a standalone banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria in July 2023.
The bank operates on the principles of non-interest banking under the guidance of its Advisory Committee of Experts.
