The counsel to African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has requested for the redeployment of the state Commissioner of Police, Michael Adegoroye Falade, after considering the alleged distortion of information on the attack on the Presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
This was mentioned in a statement issued yesterday by Tope Temokun Esq, Principal Counsel, Tope Temokun Chambers.
Sowore condemned the investigation carried out by the Ekiti State Police Command as poor and urged on the office of National Security Adviser to step into the matter.
The statement says in parts: “We demand the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State, Mr. Michael Adegoroye Falade, for his handling of the investigation into the attack on Omoyele Sowore and his team in Ado-Ekiti on October 30, 2026.
We have already asked the Inspector-General of Police to take over the inquiry. The hasty moves by the Ekiti State Police Command to quickly charge nameless innocent persons to court look like a cover-up job.
Following the attack, Sowore reached out to the police in Ado-Ekiti for an update. The officer he had talked to stated there was nothing to investigate because he had not given a statement. But the same Command suddenly selected 11 men and hurried them to court without taking his account or consulting him on their identity.
“We suspect that these persons were randomly picked so as to avoid our demand for the Inspector-General of Police to take over the investigation and cover up the real culprits.
“What evidence links the accused to the attack? How did they get identified? What has been done about those people that Sowore specifically named? Announcing an arraignment doesn’t solve these questions. “Police should not cover up for offenders or arrest innocent people just to show that they are doing something.
“The management of this case also raises serious concerns about potential suppression or destroying of evidence. These matters need to be investigated independently and beyond the purview of the Ekiti State Command.
“Those who cannot protect lives and property cannot be trusted to secure votes. If Mr Falade cannot safeguard people when there is no election, how can citizens trust him to oversee security amid the tension of the 2027 elections? Voters, candidates, opposition leaders and critics of the administration must be able to engage in public life without fear for their safety. CheckVoting Information
We now again demand that the Inspector-General of Police hand over the investigation to an impartial team, secure all pertinent evidence and investigative documents and protect witnesses. The people named must be probed properly and fully by Sowore.
“In view of the security implications of this attack and the shoddy manner in which the Police are investigating it, we call on the office of the National Security Adviser to intervene for a coordinated action. An attempt to kill a presidential contender visiting a State of the Federation is a threat to national security.
Pull Mr. Falade out of Ekiti and redeploy him to an administrative desk job. The probe would have to be moved but to keep him in charge would not address the serious issues over his leadership and impartiality.
“This is about everyone who relies on the police to keep them safe. Political violence should not be a criterion for who can visit a state, campaign or express dissent. Those who planned, funded and carried out this atrocity must be brought to justice.
