The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has claimed President Bola Tinubu has cleared promotion backlogs in the services under the ministry and granted life time wages for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General of Immigration.
This was disclosed by Tunji-Ojo, yesterday, during the concluding ceremony of the Specialised Border Control and Immigration Management System Training at the Immigration Headquarters, Abuja, reports NAN.
He congratulated Tinubu for clearing backlogs of promotion, saying “not less than 50,000 personnel have been promoted with new ranks and offices in three years.
“It is unprecedented but Tinubu did it. “He also increased the volume of recruitment, and we now have no less than 40,000 new recruits at once.”
“Mr. President has done it regarding a salary increment. He did also, in terms of hazard allowances, special allowance.”
Tunji-Ojo also commended the President for demonstrating concern for the wellbeing of serving and retired staff, citing the rise in pension of retired Comptrollers-General of Immigration.
“There used to be a pension of N130,000 for CGs, it was not encouraging. But what did the president do? He signed and approved compensation for life for CGs, DCGs.”
“There is no president in the history of Nigeria that has cared for the services like this president. He has given you all he has.”
And all he demands of us in the service is to do our duties well and make Nigerians happy. “He has done everything we have asked him to do. this is the least we can do.”
The minister said Tinubu was a visionary leader whose initiatives were meant to have long-term, lasting good impacts.
Tunji-Ojo said that, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu was laying a foundation that would withstand the test of time and stay relevant after he left office.
“President Bola Tinubu is not about the immediate. He is about the future. He knows that the richest nations do not boil, cook and consume their seeds, they sow them.
“What this president is doing is planting seeds so the future will be abundant,” he remarked.
The minister also quoted Tinubu as saying that he would not be in the position forever but that institutions would endure, adding that what was important was what would be passed down through generations.
