The Presidential Campaign Organization of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has described the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council as a “coalition of failed politicians” and stated that it cannot stop President Bola Tinubu from imminent defeat at the 2027 general election.
“Nebuchadnezzar Coalition” heading for political humiliation, citing worsening insecurity, economic hardship and declining public confidence in the Tinubu administration. In a statement today by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the Allied Peoples Movement Council of Makinde described the council as monumental failures.
“This Nebuchadnezzar Coalition is heading for the rocks as it cannot whitewash the failures of the Tinubu administration, nor rewrite the painful realities confronting citizens,” the Council said. It cannot create public approval through a procession of “political predators” and power-drunk elites who confuse political domination with public acceptance.
”As president Tinubu’s high confidence in this alliance of failed governors, yes-along legislators, and discredited politicians, some of whom are fleeing from corruption investigations, even as his administration presides over an unprecedented economic crisis, worsening insecurity and a devastating collapse of public confidence, we see in the APC Presidential Campaign Council imminent political humiliation.
Those who mistake temporary power for permanence, and bolster their illusions by surrounding themselves with paid loyalists and sycophants who do not command the loyalty or followership of the people, rather than facing up to the harsh reality of failures, litter the history of embarrassment.
What will be the justification of the Nebuchadnezzar Coalition to Nigerians for the 140 million citizens (63% of the population) now in multidimensional poverty according to a World Bank Report and the 113 million in deprivation in health, education and other basics as a consequence of President Tinubu’s misrule? The group queried how the APC campaign committee would justify the increased misery of millions of Nigerian families and rising unemployment among youths which it attributed to Tinubu’s policies.
It quoted a federal government statement that 70 per cent of Nigerian youngsters below the age of 10 could not read and understand a simple sentence.
The Makinde Campaign said the data were a reflection of the country’s worsening socio-economic issues and dwindling human capital, adding that the APC campaign council cannot take the place of responsibility and concrete results in the midst of rampant poverty, homelessness and illiteracy.
It added: “President Tinubu is on a collision course with the people. He is part of a defining struggle between the arrogance of power and the democratic determination of a battered population brought to the verge by deepening socio-economic distress and for which they finally want independence. “Misrule cannot be insulated from President Tinubu by any coalition or incumbent power. No one can stem the rising tide of public discontent, erase the memory of broken promises or deny the people their fundamental right to demand responsibility and reform.
“The APC may increase the size of their Nebuchadnezzar Coalition but they cannot force the Nigerian people to their side by the power of their political influence. Elections are not won on the size of a campaign council, or on the number of strong persons brought together. They are won by the confidence of citizens who must decide, at the end of the day, if their lives have improved under the government that seeks their votes.
In any democracy the people have the final word, and the strongest campaign council can do nothing to prevent a discontented people from trying to change their lot by the ballot. View Voting Information
