The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced an eight-hour planned maintenance at its 132/33kV Kubwa Substation on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, as part of a significant intervention to replace two defective power-transmission components and improve the reliability of electricity supply to parts of Abuja.
The repair, which is planned to last from 10:00am to 6:00pm, will involve the replacement of a broken 33kv NIPP feeder circuit breaker and a pierced yellow-phase current transformer, TCN said in a notification to the public.
But there will be power outage for consumers in Kubwa, Bwari, Army Resettlement, sections of Dutse Alhaji and nearby communities as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will not be able to off-take electricity from the substation during the activity.
TCN stated the scheduled outage window would be used by its maintenance personnel to replace the damaged equipment with replacement units.
The intervention is important because the faults that involve the equipment at transmission substations can limit the capacity of distribution companies to receive and transmit the available electricity to subsequent customers, which makes preventive and corrective maintenance critical to the stability of the network.
The exercise, the Company said, was being undertaken as part of measures to preserve the integrity of its transmission infrastructure and increase reliability in energy supply to consumers connected to the Kubwa transmission network.
Residents, companies and other energy customers in the impacted communities will face an eight-hour interruption, which will begin at 10:00am and end at 6:00pm, while the maintenance work is being carried out.
TCN advised affected consumers to prepare for the scheduled downtime and regretted the disruption the exercise may occasion.
The Company added that the discovered equipment problems would be corrected and the operation of the Kubwa substation improved by replacing the problematic 33kV feeder circuit breaker and the yellow-phase current transformer to make it more reliable.
The proposed intervention also emphasises the necessity of planned maintenance to prevent the escalation of equipment failures into larger, and potentially longer, power outages across integrated transmission and distribution networks.
TCN indicated that the power supply would be restored once the repair work is completed and the equipment returned to service satisfactorily.
