The number of deaths from the series of traffic crashes on the Hawan Kibo traffic in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has grown to 21.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Joseph Udoabba, and the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Corps Commander Adelaja Ogungbemi, who were at the scene yesterday to inspect the incident site, put the latest figure after the inspection.
The site and level of damage caused by the accident that happened on Friday evening when a truck allegedly had brake failure and rammed into other vehicles travelling toward Jos were inspected by officials.
The incident involved a truck, a Hummer bus and a motorbike, Channels TV reports.
The Hummer bus caught fire after the crash, trapping several casualties inside the vehicle.
After the evaluation, the FRSC officials appealed to motorists to exercise more caution when driving, and to make sure their vehicles are properly maintained.
They called on vehicle owners to regularly examine important vehicle components especially the braking systems which are key to reducing unnecessary road accidents and loss of life.
“FRSC has also continued to manage traffic around the scene and facilitate the removal of the affected vehicles and recovery of the victims. “

Six persons were confirmed died in a horrific car accident along Girei Road, Adamawa State last month.
In a multiple car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, near the Ibadan end of the road, no fewer than five lives were lost while eight got varied degrees of injuries some months ago.
In April, the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said three persons died in another multiple-vehicle accident at the Onipepeye axis of the Abeokuta–Sagamu Road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state. Seven additional persons were hurt in the crash.
