The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has began urgent restoration works on Towers J4 and N9 and N12 on the Ikot Abasi –Eket 132kV double circuit transmission line, following recent acts of vandalism.
This was contained in a statement made by TCN Management on Monday.
Represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr. Ubani Raymond, the Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello said the inspection was to ensure strict compliance with engineering specifications and make immediate corrections where necessary.
Dr. Raymond reported that the rehabilitation activities were progressing satisfactorily, and that the vandalised towers had been totally disassembled and the tower bases properly recast.
He added advised the people of Ikot Abasi to be watchful and take proactive steps in securing vital electricity infrastructure in their villages from criminal elements.
Speaking at the site, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, emphasised the need for strict monitoring to ensure compliance with engineering standards and to assure the quality of the rehabilitation works.
He praised TCN Management for carefully roping in two contractors to fast accelerate project execution. Rainy weather and difficult terrain, he said, had slowed the work.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Center, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, was satisfied with the progress of the rehabilitation works.
He praised the contractors for their dedication and understanding of the need to complete the project.
